March of Dimes Walk

Most of you that know me know that our first born, Jocelyn was premature. When she was born she was almost 3 months early and weighed only 3 pounds 7 ounces. She was so tiny. I remember when Robert took me to the NICU for the first time he picked her up and she fit in the palm of his hand.

Once I was ready to be released I was told that Jocelyn would have to stay in the NICU. Then they told me that they couldn’t give me a time frame because it all depended on how she progressed. I cannot explain the feeling of Robert and I leaving the hospital without Jocelyn. For the next week I went down there every three to four hours to feed her and spend as much time with her as I could. I wasn’t sleeping and going crazy not having my brand new baby girl. Jocelyn ended up having to stay in the NICU for 11 days. Once we signed the papers and got her out of there I instantly felt as if I could breathe…it was really strange. Poor Robert was getting the brunt end of my nervousness with ever bump on the road going home.

I know that the staff at the Erlanger NICU treated my baby with the absolute best care possible. I do not think they get the accreditation that each one of them deserves.
Today, Jocelyn is in Kindergarten and thriving as any 6 year old should. She can read and is learning to add and subtract. She loves music, dancing, and photography (like her Momma). Almost 18 months after Jocelyn was born we had another baby girl, Naomi. She was delivered at full term and as healthy as could be. Naomi is now 4 and looking forward to starting school in the fall.

So, you can see how near and dear to my heart that the March of Dimes is to me and my family. Please join in on the fun and be a part of something that can help the children of today and tomorrow. My family has started a team and we will all be walking on May 6, 2012. The walk with start at Camp Jordan Arena, right off of I75 South. Registration time is 1:00 PM and the walk starts at 3:00 PM. I have started the donation process and would love for you all to donate whatever you can…even if it’s a dollar. I have set a family goal of $500 which we have 95 days to meet. So please dig in those oversized bags and make a donation to support the March of Dimes and all of the families that have experienced premature birth within their own families. Feel free to email me at sweetgraphix@live.com or you can inbox me of my Facebook page or call 423.771.6380.
